From time to time, Wichita Habitat for Humanity looks for self-motivated, team players committed to joining the front lines in the fight against poverty in America. AmeriCorps members commit to one year of full-time service with Wichita Habitat for Humanity.
WHFH AmeriCorps Direct Positions
Members receive an annual living allowance and educational award paid upon completion of service.
AmeriCorps is an opportunity to make a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you. It's a chance to apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- College graduate or some college preferred, but not required
- U.S. Citizen or legal resident alien
Benefits provided thru the Americorps* National Direct Program
- $11,800 annual living allowance (as of 2010/2011 service year)
- Health coverage
- $5,350 end of service education award (as of 2010/2011 service year)
- Housing allowance may be available
Skills Needed:
- Ability to train, encourage and supervise volunteers
- Good leadership and organization skills
- Ability to work independently
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Commitment to Habitat’s housing ministry goals, flexible attitude and strong work ethic
- Ability to relate to people of different races, faiths and incomes
- Computer skills
- Valid driver's license and good driving record

About Americorp VISTA
AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 40 years.
We do not have any openings for an AmeriCorps VISTA member.
What VISTA Members Do
VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. With passion, commitment, and hard work, you’ll create or expand programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. |
