- Partnerships with civic groups, community leaders, churches, businesses, and individuals
MISSION STATEMENT
We are passionate about eliminating poverty housing in
Wichita and Sedgwick County, Kansas. It is our goal to touch the lives of
people in need by providing the life skills and opportunity to become
successful homeowners.
It is vision and focus on the mission that keeps Wichita Habitat for Humanity looking towards the future and moving forward to meet both strategic and humanitarian goals.
In business terms, the goal for WHFH is to grow to the point of sustaining the building of 25 houses each year. In 2008, WHFH reached and exceeded the 100 home milestone and in 2009 we built 18 homes to help 18 more families reach their dream of homeownership. In human terms - which is the everyday language of Habitat staff, board, and volunteers - the goal is to build homes with, and for people who need decent, yet affordable, housing for their families.
"WHFH Seeks to transform the lives of people in need through the security of owning their own simple, decent, and affordable home," says Executive Director, Linda Stewart. "There are many in our community who do not have a decent place to sleep at night. There are families who have to move their children several times in a school year and families who cannot find affordable housing." The human need compels the board, staff, and volunteers to maintain their focus on the vision and the mission.
The 2010 goal is to build 18 homes, an increase from ten in 2006, 14 in 2007 and 17 in 2008. Building 18 homes will move the organization towards the strategic goal of 25 houses in a year. While the goal is
20 houses, the need for affordable homeownership is much greater.
As people, churches, businesses, and organizations offer their financial and volunteer support, WHFH will be honored to collaborate as we seek to end poverty housing.
The future of Wichita Habitat for Humanity can be discussed in many ways. But as Stewart expresses, "We can be a part of the process by offering families a hand up to home ownership, reducing their housing costs, and returning property taxes to the community. Everyone wins with WHFH!" Everyone will win with this cooperative view for the future.
