Building stability & self-reliance through homeownership

Homeownership leads to stability and success. Children do better in school, finally having a neighborhood they can call their own. Adults often pursue more schooling and better jobs.

Wichita Habitat for Humanity partners with people in Sedgwick County who are interested in improving their lives through homeownership and can afford to pay around $450 a month for 20 years. That’s a small price to pay for stability!

If you meet the three criteria listed below, please attend an information meeting to obtain an application and learn more about what’s involved.  You may be eligible if you have a:

  1. Need for housing: If you currently live in substandard, overcrowded, temporary or unsafe living conditions, or are paying over 30% of income on housing and utility costs, or have not been able to obtain a conventional bank loan.
  2. Ability to Pay:  If you have a steady income that is sufficient to repay the 20-year, 0% interest mortgage and monthly living expenses (see income guidelines below)
  3. Willingness to Partner with us:  If you are willing to invest in our work together through financial education and homeownership classes, save money to cover your closing costs  and complete 250-400 hours of “sweat equity” in your home.

Income Information

Wichita Habitat for Humanity accepts all sources of legal, steady, documentable income that will continue for a period of no less than 36 months.  This includes (but is not limited to) Wages, Child Support, SSI, Disability, Social Security.  Income from all members of the household should be reported even if person is not a co-applicant.
